The best time of the year on the sports calendar has arrived, NFL football will be played every single week for the next six months, where many teams have Super Bowl dreams. Players also have their own hardware to be chasing, and that is what we are going to take a look at today. Here are my 2024 Awards predictions for NFL MVP, OPOY, DPOY, COY, OROY, DROY, & comeback player.
NFL MVP:
Joe Burrow, QB, Bengals (+900) - The Bengals and Joe Burrow had a disappointing season last year, much of which was due to lingering injuries and a slow start. The benefit of a bad season last year is that the Bengals have the easiest SOS in their division, which will be a gauntlet. A fully healthy Burrow, Chase, & o-line will give the 2020 Heisman winner ample opportunities to have a prolific passing season. Burrow has the 3rd best odds, and I believe a big season is in line for Cincy and Joe Cool.
OPOY:
CeeDee Lamb, WR, Cowboys (+1000) - arguably the best WR in the NFL had a career year last season, which saw him finish 3rd in this award, and get a massive payday. Much is in the air about the Cowboy's defense, but with no real WR2 on the roster, Lamb should be involved in every single offensive drive. He like Burrow has the 3rd best odds to win this award, and I believe he tops his incredible 2023 season in terms of production.
DPOY:
Aidan Hutchinson, DE, Lions (+1000) - This was one of the harder picks of the awards, and for me, it ultimately came down to Hutch and Maxx Crosby of the Raiders. The 2nd overall pick in 22 has gotten better each season in the NFL, and with the Lions most likely having a great record, that means more opportunities for sacks. If the Lions have a top 2 record in the NFC and Hutchinson can eclipse the 18/20 sack range, this is incredible value and +1000.
OROY:
Jayden Daniels, QB, Commanders (+500) - #1 overall pick Caleb Williams is the overwhelming favorite to win this award at +150, and those odds just aren't good at all. So I'll go with the 2024 Heisman winner Daniels. The LSU QB is getting the keys to the offense right out the gate, and OC Kliff Kingsbury knows how to get the most out of mobile QBs. If Caleb takes Chicago to the playoffs he is a lock for the award, but a lot of things have to go right in order for that to happen. So you might as well take the value with Daniels, or even Marvin Harrison Jr at +700.
DROY:
Jared Verse, DE, Rams (+1100) - Defensive ROY is the biggest toss-up of the entire awards, as a defensive player was not taken off the board until pick 15. Aaron Donald is gone, so someone is going to have to step up and fill that massive void. Why not Verse, he has the potential to rack up a lot of sacks and be an absolute game-wrecker. I am the least confident out of all the selections in this one, but might as well take the good value in the toss-up.
Coach of the Year:
Jim Harbaugh, Chargers (+900) - The first and only odds-on favorite award I will select is Harbaugh. Coming back to the NFL after a decade in college, there will be a lot of eyes on LA this season. The Chargers have a super-talented defense, and if you think they will make the playoffs, then you can also guarantee Harbaugh wins COY. A “rookie” HC that exceeds expectations always gets the eyes of voters, and it certainly helps Harbaugh's case that he was already one of the most known coaches in America before taking the Job.
Comeback Player:
Kirk Cousins, QB, Falcons (+500) - If I am taking Burrow to win MVP, then he should also be the CPOY, but Cousins was leading the NFL in TD passes last year before a season-ending Achilles injury. Aaron Rodgers of the Jets is the odds-on favorite to win at +150, but Cousins with a new squad full of weapons, and a weak division, is going to be your best bet.
Those are my predictions for the 2024 NFL awards, we will come back to this article in February when all the awards are announced. If I had to guess I would say I get 3/7 correct, but NFL seasons are always unpredictable.
