August MLB Power Rankings

The MLB season is coming down to the home stretch, with still 75% of teams relatively in contention. This season is also shaping up to be a nail bitter, where that hasn’t been one team to separate themselves from the rest of their peers. 2024 could become the first MLB season without an 100 Win team since 2014, which means October is anyones game. Here are my power rankings for MLB teams in comparison to their rankings just over a month ago.

World Series Contenders - Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Guardians. All teams that were in this list previously remain, with one new addition. Stephen Vogt has revitalized Cleveland in his first year as skipper, and are tied for best record in baseball. Although lacking star power, watch out for Cleveland as a world series contender.

Postseason Teams - Atlanta Braves, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres. This tier also remains the sale, with the Astors & Mariners remaining in a tight race for the AL West crown. I would say these ten teams mentioned have incredible odds to make the playoffs.

Wild Card Hopeful - Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates. With the new playoff format, six teams now make the postseason. This means there will definitely be a surprise contender who had an awful start make a late run. It could very well come from a team not in these tiers, but half of the Wild Card hopefuls have a shot to play October Baseball.

Not Good - Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers. Who would've thought the reigning world series champions would fall on this list, but you can never predict baseball. Whether its injuries, lack of production, or both, Texas has been overwhelmingly disappointing for the majority of 2024.

AAAA- This tier is for the teams that could probably win a series against a tripleA squad, but are not anywhere close to the rest of the MLB. Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics. All of these teams had no expectations going into the season, but for the White Sox, they are currently on a 20 game loosing streak, and on pace to be one of the worst teams in MLB history.
