The heavily favored Boston Celtics have defeated the Indiana Pacers to advance to the NBA Finals. Every game was close, but Boston managed to pull away each time.
The Celtics have been picked to make the Finals by most basketball fans since the start of the 2023-24 season. The star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have led the way with consistency.
Their path to the Finals hasn’t been too difficult though, as they’ve played three teams that were never considered contenders. The Heat were missing Jimmy Butler, the Cavs were missing Donovan Mitchell and the inexperienced Pacers were missing Tyrese Haliburton. Obviously as the first seed, Boston’s path will be easier than others, but it is hard to ignore.
The Celtics will most likely play the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, as they are up 3-0 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The anticipated matchup of Kyrie Irving versus Boston will be a huge storyline. Expect Irving to come for blood, as the Celtics fans despise him. The duo matchup of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown versus Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving will be an amazing sight.
Boston has a huge chance to win the championship, but ultimately their depth might catch up to them. Although they have won many games this postseason, a lot of the games have been close. They do have flaws, and a team like the Mavericks can expose those flaws. Dallas is a deeper team and has the more unstoppable duo in Luka and Kyrie.
These 2024 NBA Finals will be one for the books, and the Boston Celtics are looking for their coveted 18th championship, an NBA record.
