Championship Leader Max Verstappen denies Charging Lando Norris to win the Spanish Grand Prix.

In the second lap, Max Verstappe took the lead and drove cautiously to secure another victory, extending his lead in the driver title in the process.

The Dutchman's commanding early lead in the race was the key to Verstappen's eighth victory in ten races this year.

After three circuit laps, Verstappen was leading, and Norris was forced to follow George Russell of Mercedes for fifteen laps.

Verstappen was able to manage the McLaren behind by measuring his pace, leaving Norris with too much work to do.

In third place, ahead of Russell, Lewis Hamilton secured Mercedes's first podium result of the year, with three British drivers placing second, third, and fourth. Fifth-place finisher Charles Leclerc led Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz home.

The race demonstrated that Red Bull no longer has the enormous lead they did after the first five races of the season, but it also demonstrated that Verstappen is performing at a consistently high level in the cockpit and will be difficult to beat both on race weekends and for the championship, which he currently holds a stranglehold on.

Verstappen hasn't taken the pole position since the Chinese Grand Prix in April, and McLaren has been behind Red Bull since the Miami Grand Prix in early May.

Nevertheless, Verstappen has solidified his lead in the championship by winning three of the last five races.

After 10 of 24 races, Norris is 69 points behind Verstappen but has surpassed Leclerc into second position.

"My victory was right in front" Norris declared. "To put it simply, I had a poor start. We were definitely the fastest today, but the car was amazing, and at first I lost it.

"A lot of advantages but also disappointment. One bad thing, and it kind of destroyed the whole affair. I can surely improve for the next time, I'm sure of it."
