Chip Kelly to Ohio State

Chip Kelly, is set to become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State. Following the announcement, UCLA confirmed Kelly's departure and the start of a search for a new head coach.

Kelly is expected to fill the position left vacant by Bill O'Brien, who was appointed as the head coach at Boston College. This move aligns with Ohio State's strategy, initiated by head coach Ryan Day, to delegate play-calling duties for a more holistic management of the program.

Kelly leaves UCLA with a record of 35-34 over six seasons, including three consecutive winning seasons. His shift to Ohio State marks him as one of several college head coaches this cycle to transition from a head coaching role to an assistant position.

UCLA's Athletic Director Martin Jarmond communicated to the team that the university aims to appoint a new head coach within four days. "Timing is challenging," Jarmond admitted, emphasizing the urgency of the search for a new program leader.

Kelly, who had been considered for NFL coordinator roles, including with the Seattle Seahawks, opts to stay in college football. He reunites with Ryan Day at Ohio State, where he'll leverage his extensive experience in offensive strategy. Kelly and Day share a long-standing connection, with Kelly having coached Day in college and later working together in the NFL.

Kelly is known for his offensive ingenuity, having led dynamic offenses at both the college level and in the NFL. At Ohio State, he will command an offense that includes talents like transfer quarterback Will Howard and standout players TreVeyon Henderson, Quinshon Judkins, and Emeka Egbuka
