The Philadelphia Eagles had one of the biggest regular season collapses in NFL history last season. They started 10-1 to end up finishing 11-7 (including playoffs). Howie Roseman needed to do something quickly, and he has delivered so far.
The Eagles have absolutely crushed it in this year’s free agency so far. They acquired running back Saquon Barkley, who was a free agent. This move was shocking, as he came from a division rival. The Eagles offered more money than any other team did for Barkley. The Giants did not offer him a contract at all, but the fans are very upset that he ended up leaving the organization. Barkley will be a huge addition to an already loaded Eagles offense. Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Saquon Barkley and Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator will certainly be a show.
On the defensive side, Philly added Bryce Huff, an emerging edge rusher. Huff recorded ten sacks last season with the New York Jets. He led the NFL in back to back seasons in pressure rate, so he is elite. They also signed linebacker Devin White, who is a former All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection. This move was necessary due to the poor linebacker play last season. The Eagles also brought back CJ Gardner-Johnson, the former Eagle. This was much needed help in the secondary, who let down the entire team most of last season. Gardner-Johnson brings a lot of toughness to the Eagles defense. He was key to their Super Bowl run back in 2022.
Philadelphia also extended some of their players. They gave Jake Elliott a four year extension, which was well deserved. You can argue that Elliott was their MVP last season, due to his consistency. They also extended Landon Dickerson for four years. Dickerson is a huge piece of their dominant offensive line. Outside of Elliott, there are only two players left from the Super Bowl 52 team, Brandon Graham and Rick Lovato. Both of those players were also extended, with Graham playing his final year in Philly next season.
Howie Roseman simply does not enjoy losing. In the last few seasons, he has absolutely stepped up as a general manager. He is widely considered the best general manager in the NFL due to his ability to snag players. After the season the Eagles had last year, changes had to be made. Roseman has stepped up to the plate so far, but he’s not done yet. The season doesn’t start until September, and free agency has just started. The draft is just over a month away, and Philly has eight draft picks. He has quite a lot to work with. With this current roster, the Eagles might have the most dangerous team in the NFL, and they’re not even remotely close to complete.
