Germany vs Spain Euro 2024 Fulltime Match Update

The two European giants are squaring off in extra time in Stuttgart. Here is what there is to know about what to expect with 30 more minutes of time to play:

Lineups and Current Form (Spain's 4-3-3):

  • GK: Simon stays in net despite the yellow card. Having had a great game so far despite the late conceded goal, it is expected that there is caution in his play with his runouts and takes for crosses/corners.

  • Defense: Laporte, Cucurella and Carvajal continue on after full time along with a half-time Nacho Fernandez substitution for Le Normand on his yellow. With the vast amount of changes on Germany's end, it will be an unpredictable 30 minutes for the Spanish defense.

  • Midfield: No surprise the anchorman Rodri stays in while the two injured Pedri and Ruiz come off for Olmo and Merino. Olmo has been the best substitute for this Spanish side bagging a goal following his early substitution for Pedri, while Joselu comes on as an attacker with a mixup within the lineup for Merino to come on and play within the midfield for Ruiz.

  • Attack: Joselu, Oyarzabal and Torres come in to replace an inform Yamal, and a decent-performing Morata and N. Williams. Despite the change of play Spain hopes to see Joselu to come in as the natural number nine that he is. Seeing Morata having a mediocre game, Spain hopes to push the veteran striker to bag a goal or be a crucial weapon in a penalty shootout.

Lineups and Current Form (Germany's 4-2-3-1):

  • GK: One of Germany's greats to continue on as Neuer is what stands in the way of Spain's victory. Both keepers are showing that a miracle must come for either side to top the other.

  • Defense: Rudiger continues on despite the rumours of quality and the yellow card alongside the world-class Kimmich in defense with Anton and Mittelstaedt replacing Tah and Raum. This is where things are scary for the German side, with all respect in the longevity of Germany's run in the Euros. In comparison, the Spanish side is much better on paper at the current moment with the overwhelming amount of caps and the domestic success between the two sides, this could be the deciding factor for the game.

  • Midfield: A retiring Toni Kroos and halftime substitute in Andrich spar alongside each other in the DM position. While Musiala, Muller and game-saving Wirtz are pushing forward more. A more playmaking foccussed midfield is vital to see past a slower in pace side in Spain. Wirtz has already been seen to make those runs behind the lines of defense, it is hard to say that anyone could keep up with him.

  • Attack: Fullkrug, like Joselu, comes in for Havertz late in regular time to be that true number nine fighting for the crosses that can be expected from this pass-heavy side by Germany.

The game looks like a penalty shootout is to come with how things are being played out. For football fans, this is another World Cup finale showing seeing the quality in both sides, this game is predicted to be a coin toss if there is a shootout. Germany is slowly showing more signs of a goal with a little over 1 expected goals (EG) over Spain. It is safe to say by the stats the game looks more in Germany's favor with the EG and the playmaking subs coming in late. Despite that, both sides have the experience and grit to keep the game level out of safety to push for a penalty shootout for both nations to remember for a long time.
