Justin Fields Traded to Pittsburgh; Will Back up Wilson

Per Ian Rappaport, on Saturday quarterback Justin Fields has been traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In return for Fields, the Bears will receive a 6th round pick in the 2025 draft, which could potentially turn into a 4th rounder if Fields ends up plays more than 51% of the snaps next season.

Fields will now be part of the Steelers' quarterback group alongside Russell Wilson, who just signed his one-year contract on Friday. It has been confirmed that the starting role belongs to Wilson, and Fields will spend this season learning behind the nine-time Pro Bowler and 1x Super Bowl champ.

Having begun his NFL journey with the Bears, Fields spent three seasons with the team. During this period, he maintained a completion rate of 60.3%, throwing for 6,674 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions, resulting in a passer rating of 82.3. Additionally, he demonstrated his rushing ability by amassing 2,220 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns on 356 carries.

Although Fields showed promising potential, the Bears appear to be fully committed to Caleb Williams. Nevertheless, this trade seems to be beneficial for both Fields and the Bears. Chicago has put together a very promising team poised to make an impact in the upcoming season, and if Williams lives up to the hype, they could make a playoff push. Meanwhile, Fields can embrace a fresh start with the opportunity to learn under one of the greatest head coaches of all time in Mike Tomlin, alongside the mentorship of veteran QB Russell Wilson.

Despite the starting role already belonging to Wilson, there's every possibility that Justin Fields could show that he can become the franchise quarterback that the Steelers have desperately been looking for.
