MLB Power Rankings: Bottom 5

Updated: Jun 10

With just over one-third of the season completed in the MLB, there are quite a few teams already looking to put 2024 behind them and focus on rebuilding for the future. most fans expected most of the teams on this list to be basement dwellers. While others have gotten off to surprisingly poor starts. Here are the bottom 5 teams in baseball going from #26-#30.

#26: New York Mets: Coming into the 2024 season, the Mets had the largest payroll in all of baseball ($308,000,000), but after a disappointing 23 campaign, few expectations were placed on the team in Queens. It has gotten ugly real fast for NY, culminating in a player calling the club “The worst Fu**ing team in the MLB”, which got him released the next day. Big-time contracts like Francisco Lindor & Jeff McNeil have taken massive steps back at the plate, and an underwhelming pitching staff has led the Mets to be potential sellers at the deadline, with big names expected to be moved.

#27: Oakland Athletics: After a .500 start through 20 games, the team with virtually no crowd has fallen down to earth since May 1. With the 3rd worst runs per game tally in baseball (3.69), and a team ERA below league average (4.20), few positive headlines have come out of the Coliseum. The main highlight has come in the form of flamethrowing reliever Mason Miller, who has been arguably the best closer in baseball this season. Miller currently ranks in the 100% range in xERA, xBA, fastball velo, and K rate. Hopefully, Oakland holds on to a special young talent, but considering their history that might not be the case.

#28: Miami Marlins: The only team on this list that made the playoffs last year has been extremely disappointing in 2024. Currently 21 games under .500 and without their best hitter Luis Arreaz Jr., another firesale is almost certain down in South Florida. Miami has scored the second-fewest runs and allowed the third most so far this year, which has been extremely disappointing following a wild card appearance last year.

#29: Los Angeles Angels: The one-man team is currently without their MVP player Mike Trout for the foreseeable future, and he still ranks #2 in HRs on the team, despite not playing since the end of April. With a bottom 5 pitching staff, and no star production at the plate, this is once again another wash of a season for one of the best baseball players ever. I speak for all MLB fans when I say, Mike Trout please request a trade from the Angels.

#30: Chicago White Sox: Yikes, this has been a year to forget for the southside of Chicago since opening day. The Sox have scored the fewest runs per game (2.95), with the worst team BA (.216), worst team OPS+ (76), and Tied last in team HR (48), There are so many things that have gone wrong. With their best hitter Luis Robert and best pitcher Garret Crochet on the trading block, to say the White Sox are blowing it up would be a massive understatement.
