Netflix to Follow Red Sox in ‘24

PHOENIX, AZ- Netflix has announced that for the entirety of the 2024 season, there will a crew following around the team for their upcoming docuseries that will premiere in 2025.

Even though it has been done before with other sports, like Golf and the hit docuseries, Full Swing, This marks the first time that Netflix will follow around a professional baseball organization over the course of a full season.

Netflix will gain exclusive access to the inner workings of the team, including players, coaches, and executives, spanning from Spring Training to the conclusion of the 2024 season.

The collaboration between Netflix, MLB, and the leadership of the Red Sox ownership group commenced in 2021 with initial discussions aimed at expanding baseball's audience through various media platforms.

According to Adam Grossman, the Red Sox's chief marketing officer, "It wasn't necessarily going to be about the Red Sox. It was just more of the importance of getting baseball into this medium, these sort of doc series and global platform opportunities,”

According to Bostons star shortstop, Trevor Story, “This is a unique opportunity the players didn’t want to pass up, I’ve enjoyed the behind-the-scenes access in Netflix’s other sports documentaries, and now we get to give the fans an unparalleled look at the passion, sacrifice and hard work it takes to be a Major League Baseball player.”

Seperate from the documentary centered on the 2024 team, Netflix and MLB disclosed on Wednesday plans for a retrospective docuseries focusing on the iconic 2004 Red Sox, coinciding with its 20th anniversary this year. The release date for this docuseries is slated for "later in 2024," as stated in the press release.
