Red Sox have two Cy Young contenders

Before the start of the 2024 MLB season, there were many questions surrounding the Red Sox bullpen and pitching rotation. Along come two unlikely Cy Young Award contenders.

Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford have been putting up surprisingly great numbers for Boston. The two pitchers struggled before the 2024 season, but have now found their stride.

The duo together has put up a 2.98 ERA which has been shaking the league up. Boston’s new pitching coach Andrew Bailey is a big factor for Houck’s and Crawford’s development as well.

Through 10 starts, Houck has been one of the best and most valuable pitchers in baseball. He has a 1.94 ERA which is a vast improvement from his 5.01 ERA in 2023. His slider and splitter have been a problem for some of the best hitters in the league.

Crawford has had a similar track record, his ERA in 2023 was 4.51 but now it’s 2.89. His sweeper pitch has been deadly for opposing players. The 28 year old is still improving daily, but he’s for sure hungry.

Even if they don’t keep up this play, the Red Sox have found their pitching duo, which had so many question marks before the season. Houck and Crawford have made their presence known.
