Shohei Ohtani Launches one deep in his Dodger Spring Training Debut

There weren't too many in attendance to witness Ohtani's first spring training game with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but those who were got to witness the MVP launch a 2-run home run into the left field stands.

Shohei Ohtani went 1-3 on the day, striking out in his first at bat then grounding out in his second before hitting the homer off of White Sox right-hander Dominic Leone in the bottom of the 5th.

The reigning AL MVP played in his first game since his right elbow surgery last September and signing of a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers in December.

Fans gathered along the third-base line to catch a glimpse of him as he made his way to the field before snapping pictures when he stepped out on deck. His home run prompted a standing ovation from the 6,678 spectators present.

"I definitely felt the energy of the crowd and the fans," he said. "I really appreciate it. I'm really happy I was able to make it back on time and play in front of the fans."

Shohei won't take the mound this season, but his powerful home runs, such as the one he hit on Tuesday, promise to provide ample excitement for Dodgers fans.

When questioned about whether he anticipates receiving more pitches within the strike zone while batting ahead of Freeman, he said, "I definitely think it's going to help...It's not just Freddie, it's Mookie and a bunch of good hitters behind Freddie."

Ohtani said he wasn't nervous before the spring training game in Phoenix, Arizona. He said he is just focused on getting ready for the regular season as the Dodgers DH.
