The Burden of Beauty

In recent news, Kylie Jenner, America's most hated sweetheart, broke down publicly for the first time ever. Her emotional outburst on the reality television show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," which she shares with her family, has garnered both pity and hate. Before we delve into her breakdown, let's go back to the beginning of her struggles in the spotlight.

Kylie Jenner was thrust into the public eye at just nine years old, as a part of her family's reality television show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," which premiered in 2007. The show followed her and her family, capturing their antics and growth as both individuals and celebrities. From the start, Kylie's looks were a hot topic of discussion. Not fitting into society's beauty standards became a source of insecurity for her. Hearing scrutiny from thousands of people day in and day out, pointing out her perceived flaws, took a toll on the impressionable young girl.

As a result, Kylie decided to address the source of her insecurities by altering her looks with lip fillers. This procedure caused a social media frenzy and brought even more attention to her. Her launch of the iconic lip kits sold out in minutes. Kylie's lips brought her immense fame and success but also a great deal of hate.

In the newly aired season of the show, Kylie expresses that she initially tried not to let what people said damage her self-esteem, becoming numb to the criticism at one point. However, the recent hate she has received about her looks has pushed her to her limit. She explained that she sees the nasty comments and doesn't understand why people don't come to her defense. I sympathize with Kylie, as the hate she receives is almost inhumane. I've seen comments that are unbelievable.

I don't understand why, after 15+ years, people still scrutinize her for the same things with no remorse. You would think people would grow tired of calling someone ugly or develop a conscience and have some respect for another human being. But I believe Kylie and all the Kardashian-Jenners are just easy targets for hate. The Kardashian-Jenners have reached a level of fame that is almost unfathomable for some people. Many think they're untouchable, that they don't notice the small things, and that their money or success cushions them from any unpleasant feelings. But this is not true. Celebrities are human before they are anything else.
