The Phillies are in an awful slump

For most of the regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies looked like the most dominant and dangerous team in Major League Baseball. For the last three weeks though, they’ve looked like one of the worst.

Philly is an abysmal 5-13 over their last 18 games after starting out with the best record in baseball. Not only this, but their best players are in a massive slump as well.

The pitching staff has completely disappeared. Their 3.09 ERA in the first three months of the season dominated the Majors. Since the beginning of July, they now rank 27th in ERA.

Former MVP Bryce Harper has been absolutely frozen in the last three weeks of play. On Sunday, he finally hit a home run against the Seattle Mariners. So maybe, things will change for the slugger.

Have the Phillies played some great competition? Absolutely, but this isn’t a good enough excuse for a team who looked like World Series favorites once again. Philly has to step their game up and get rid of this slump prior to the postseason.

There’s a lot of baseball left to play, and one team who has proved they can turn it around is the Phillies. These type of slumps can either build or break a team. Which will happen to the Phillies?
