Two Cy Young candidates are on the same team

Zack Wheeler and Ranger Suarez have been playing out of their minds in 2024. The two Philadelphia Phillies pitchers have been dealing all season. The two have been playing so well that they are both early candidates for the NL Cy Young Award. It is rare that two pitchers on the same team are in the Cy Young race, but Suarez and Wheeler are doing just that.

Ranger Suarez currently has an ERA of 1.50 and Zack Wheeler has an ERA of 1.64. They are the first duo of Phillies starters to do that since 1915. Those numbers have them top five in ERA among pitchers this season so far.

Betting sportsbooks have both Wheeler and Suarez top eight in odds to win the NL Cy Young Award. Wheeler is currently the favorite at +230 and Suarez sits at +1400. With the way they’re playing, either of these guys are safe bets for the award.

Both of these star pitchers have propelled the Phillies into the best record in baseball. They currently sit at 28–13 and are dominating teams left and right. Philadelphia made the World Series two years ago and they are striving to make it back. If the Phillies can have a balanced team effort this season, they have a strong chance to run the table in the NL.

Wheeler and Suarez are setting a new standard for pitching in the MLB. A team having two pitchers who can play this well will be a hot commodity. If they play this well all season, there’s a strong chance the Phillies get back to the World Series and potentially win it this time.
