Where will Russell Wilson go next?

The Denver Broncos have come to a decision regarding Quarterback Russell Wilson, notifying the nine-time Pro Bowler that he will be released after the league year kicks off on March 13th. Despite signing a massive five-year, $245 million contract extension with the Broncos in August 2022, Wilson did not have the opportunity to take a single snap under that extension.

This move will entail Denver absorbing a $39 million hit, but it will also avoid the $37 million guaranteed payout that would have been triggered for 2025. However, the Broncos will now suffer an NFL-record $85 million in dead cap space. It is anticipated that this action will be ruled as a post-June 1 transaction, resulting in a cap charge of $35.4 million for 2024 and an additional charge of $53.6 million for 2025.

The decision was jointly announced by General Manager George Paton and Head Coach Sean Payton.

"We spoke with Russell Wilson today to inform him of his release after the start of the league year. On behalf of the Broncos, we thank Russell for his contributions and dedication to our team and community while wishing him the best as he continues his career.... "As we move forward, we are focused on building the strongest team possible for the 2024 season and beyond. We are excited to improve this offseason and will have the flexibility to get better through the draft and free agency."

The Broncos now have granted Wilson permission to meet with other teams in their home cities ahead of the new league year. So, where might Wilson find himself next? Let's take a look at the two best possible landing spots for Russell.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

In my opinion, the Steelers are the best destination for Wilson. Their ability to have winning seasons year after year, despite limited offensive production sets them apart. This presents an ideal situation for both parties: Wilson would have the opportunity to pursue a deep Super Bowl run, while Mike Tomlin would finally secure the consistent quarterback play he's sought for the past few years.

Atlanta Falcons

I believe the Falcons will try trading for Justin Fields or selecting one of the top quarterback prospects in this years upcoming draft. However, if negtioations with the Bears fall through and they decide to go for a seasoned veteran, Russell Wilson would make a great choice. Wilson proved last year that he still had what it takes to win games, and with Atlantas talented young offensive core would make the Falcons an enticing destination for him. With a new head coach in Raheem Morris and both sides wanting to start fresh, this would be a great option for both sides.
