Everyone knows that is difficult to win a championship in sports. The MLB is a different animal though, a team who wins over 100 regular season games could fizzle out in the first round, or a team that barely makes the postseason could win it all. The 2024 MLB season has just started, but these are the hot start teams I think will and will not contend for a championship.
Yankees - WILL contend
The Bronx Bombers are off to a scorching 12-4 start, and the addition of Juan Soto helps puts them in contention territory.
2. Guardians - WON’T contend
The injury to Shane Bieber will ultimately hurt Cleveland in the long run. Although they are off to a great start, pitching will be detrimental soon enough.
3. Brewers - WILL contend
This young Milwaukee core has been on a run, and they are hungry. Their grit will come through at the biggest moments in the postseason.
4. Dodgers - WON’T contend
I know, the Dodgers have one of the most star studded teams in baseball. When it comes down to the playoffs, they always find a way to fold.
5. Pirates - WILL contend
Pittsburgh has been the sneaky team so far this season, they have a group full of yearning veterans who want to add a ring to their resumes.
6. Royals - WON’T contend
Kansas City has gotten off to a surprisingly strong start, coming off of a 56-106 season. After a disappointing season like that, they are motivated. However, I think they will hit a wall midway through the season.
7. Braves - WILL contend
Atlanta simply has one of the best rosters in baseball. As long as they can get past their demons (The Phillies) they will have a serious shot at a World Series title.
