THE next fight in the career of boxing superstar Gervonta Davis looks to have been confirmed.
That’s because today the WBA revealed they have granted their super-featherweight champion Lamont Roach special permission to challenge Davis for his WBA lightweight belt on December 14.

In an article published on their website the WBA wrote, ‘NoXcuse Boxing Promotions sent the formal request on September 13, which was received by the committee to be considered and consulted with the team of Albert Batyrgaziev, who is the mandatory 130 lbs. challenger.
‘After the respective analysis and based on the internal rules of the organization, it was decided to grant the request to Roach under certain conditions.’
Should Roach defeat Davis and win the WBA lightweight championship he will then have five days to decide which of the two titles he will keep and defend. However, if Roach loses he will be required to fight the official 130-pound challenger within 120 days of the Davis fight.
Rumours of a fight between the two 29 year olds had been swirling around boxing in recent weeks. Davis was last in action in June stopping Frank Martin in eight rounds. Thirteen days later Roach won in similar fashion against Feargal McCrory during a successful first title defence.
