With a 2-6 record, the New York Jets are seemingly out of the running for a playoff spot, especially after their latest setback, which came in the form of a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The acquisition of star wide receiver Davante Adams has failed to make a positive impact, at least so far, and Aaron Rodgers is clearly not the great player he used to be.
Commentator Mike Greenberg, a New York City native, went as far as to call this season’s Jets “the biggest failure of any team in any sport that I can remember in a really long time,” per ESPN Radio.

The Jets and their fans had suffered through some 50 years of overall ineptitude, and when the team landed Rodgers in the 2023 offseason, it looked like it had turned the page.
Pundits looked at the Jets’ roster, which included a talented defense, an up-and-coming running back and a stud wide receiver in Garrett Wilson, and pegged the Jets as Super Bowl contenders.
Even after Rodgers tore his Achilles on their first offensive series of 2023, some felt very optimistic about them coming into this season.
Instead, there has been drama, starting with Rodgers failing to attend a practice during the offseason and continuing with the firing of Robert Saleh, a firing that many have blamed on Rodgers.
Greenberg said New York’s defense has been vastly overrated, partly by New York itself, and that the team has been “probably the worst coached sports team” he’s ever seen.
