Insider Says Patriots Owner Is Getting Outside Help For Developing Drake Maye

After years of trying to find the right successor for future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, the New England Patriots may have finally found their guy to lead this team into the foreseeable future, with rookie Drake Maye looking capable of becoming a star in the NFL.

Although Maye needs a lot of polish and is far from a finished product at the quarterback position on the professional level, he’s shown a lot of promise in an otherwise challenging situation in New England, which is a pleasant surprise for the storied franchise.

Longtime team owner Robert Kraft has become so enamored with Maye and his potential that he’s taking no chances when it comes to developing the 22-year-old.

According to Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston, Kraft is bringing in outside help to develop Maye into the next star under center for the Patriots via WEEI Afternoons.

“They are doing it, and I think that’s the due diligence you should engage in when you watch your young quarterbacks as a third-overall pick, and you understand, as Robert Kraft has said to me, coach and quarterbacks are the two things that you need to succeed in the league, period. End of story,” Curran said.

With the Patriots going through rough seasons since Brady’s departure and the fact that legendary head coach Bill Belichick is no longer with the team, Kraft pulling out all the stops to get it right with Maye makes a lot of sense.

There’s no point in taking any chances that Maye doesn’t work out for the Patriots, so Kraft is getting proactive, and it may end up paying off for the team and the player.
