Dan Orlovsky Says 1 Rookie QB Should Be In OROY Conversation

The New England Patriots have won just three games this season.

They dropped four of their first five games before Jerod Mayo finally turned to Drake Maye.

It didn’t take long before that proved to be the right decision.

While still modest and raw, the offense has looked much better under Maye, who has shown some glimpses of greatness in his first year in the league.

That’s why former NFL QB Dan Orlovksy argued that, even though that won’t happen because of his team’s struggles, Maye should be in the Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation, at least football-wise.

He claimed that his tape was “awesome.”

Maye’s numbers aren’t that bad for a rookie.

In seven appearances (six starts), he’s thrown for 1,236 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing almost 67% of his passes.

He also has 28 rushes for 260 yards and a touchdown.

Notably, those numbers are from five games, as he was only out there for one drive in his debut, and he had to leave the win vs. the New York Jets early with an injury.

Maye is still raw and needs to take better care of the football, but he’s been relentless, fearless, and in control.

He’s a gifted athlete with the potential to be one of the best, most physical dual-threat guys in the league, sort of a 2.0 version of Josh Allen.

It’s early, and the Patriots are a ways away from being a good team, but they seem to have found their guy.
