For some reason that no one has been able to explain, the Giants failed to target star rookie wideout Malik Nabers in the first half of last week’s loss to Tampa Bay. Nabers ended the game with a strong second half (six receptions, 64 yards) but was extremely upset after the game about both losing and how he was used.
The Giants are crazy to ignore Nabers. In fact, it’s coaching malpractice. With those six second-half receptions, Nabers became the first player in NFL history with at least five receptions and 50 receiving yards in eight of his first nine career games.
Nabers has 67 receptions on the season, surpassing the Rams’ Puka Nacua (64 receptions) for the most receptions by a player in his first nine games in NFL history.
The Giants’ turnover differential on the season is -6, which isn’t terrible but it’s odd how it’s played out. They have eight fumble recoveries — fourth best in the NFL — but just one interception. On Sunday, they tied the modern NFL record (since 1933) for most consecutive games in a single season without a defensive interception: 10.
